Sinus Lift
What to expect
A sinus lift is a type of bone graft performed in the upper jaw, a surgical procedure intended to add bone in the upper jaw area, when there isn't enough bone to place dental implants. The procedure makes it possible to create suitable conditions for implants to integrate, while preserving the structure of the jaw and sinus. There are two main methods for performing the procedure, open lift and closed lift, chosen according to the condition of the bone.
Who is the treatment suitable for?
The treatment suits patients who need dental implants in the upper jaw, when there's a bone deficiency in the back area. Suitability is determined after an exam and imaging, usually using 3D imaging.
What the treatment process looks like
Treatment begins with diagnosis and precise planning of the structure of the bone and sinus. Based on the findings, the appropriate lift method is chosen. In a closed sinus lift, bone is added through the implant site, in a relatively gentle procedure. In an open sinus lift, direct access is made to the sinus area and a larger amount of bone is added. After the procedure, a healing period is required, after which the dental implant can be placed.
